Patriarch Pavle discusses the challenges of the church in our modern time, the causes of neurosis and what love towards enemies actually means.
Patriarch Pavle of Serbia:
“We should always have in mind the words of Savonarola (1452-1498), a man who in the time when Christian life had declined said that the first church had wooden chalices but golden priests. Now it has golden chalices but wooden priests.”
“That love is not an emotion… It is the feeling that that man does not know he is rushing into eternal perdition. He does not know what he is doing. We feel the grief and the wish that even that person repents in front of God and we pray to God to do anything He can so that this person also repents, changes his life and saves himself. That is the love towards enemies.”
