In this strong message, Metropolitan Longin Jar (Ukrainian Orthodox Church) urges everyone to stop the war and the bloodshed. He speaks in Romanian, addressing the Romanian-speaking people in the church, as in that region many Ukrainians speak Romanian. Bishop Longin is famous as the founder of the Banchenskyy Monastery in Ukraine, where hundreds of orphans are looked after, 200 of whom have been adopted personally by this energetic bishop.

Bishop Longin
Today we have come to pray to God to bring peace to the earth, because all nations are set on wickedness, one against the another. And we are on the brink of great danger. Let us pray fervently to God, my brethren, that God through your prayers, of you, mothers, you know how to pray from the heart, from the soul, you know where it hurts when you suffer for your children. Neither the hand nor the foot hurts, but the heart hurts, the soul hurts, something hurts in the chest that cannot be calmed. So many mothers cry for days with photos in their hands, asking us where their children are, whether they are alive or dead.
Today we bear great sorrow in our souls, we suffer with this people of ours, with our country and together with all the people of the earth, and let us pray to the Lord to hear our prayer, to never leave us, because only He can arrange all things at their place. Thank you for today. And I would like, mothers, even if you cry, to cry with joy, when you hug your children. Stop crying in cemeteries, stop crying in hospitals, stop crying, you, orphans. Now we have hundreds of thousands of orphans, and someone was angry with me for offending them with a word, because they had “blessed” the war… We should cry day and night, cry out to heaven, and pray, all the people of the earth, as Metropolitan Onuphry said, “Let the war stop, whoever has any influence, please stop, stop, stop the bloodshed. Let the tears stop! Let this pain and suffering stop!”
This is what I ask of you, only you know how to pray from the heart, from the soul, you can feel the pain that hurts us all today like no one else. What beautiful would be to get up tomorrow morning and tell ourselves that the war is over and that there is peace and that tomorrow or the day after tomorrow our soldiers will return home, my children will return home and I will hug them again and tell them how much we love them and they will tell their mothers: “how much I love you too, mother”.
May God help you all, be with you, and in these times we should serve as much as possible the churches, the altars, serve God as much as possible and to pray to Him, God will not let us: “we are wrong, we are guilty, Lord, no one is without sin in front of You, we are to be blamed, but please forgive us, O merciful Lord, and have mercy on our Orthodox peoples around the globe, on all those who pray for us, on our dear and beloved Romania, who have done so much and helped the Ukrainian people and you sent the last piece of your mouth to do something good, and maybe you were the most ignored… That’s good actually [to be ignored]!… But remember: “what people may forget, God never forgets.”
