In this video, Fr. Moses Berry (✝2024) shares a story about the day his uncle Fred challenged him to fully embrace his Orthodox Christian faith. Raised in a family of AME and Baptist traditions, Fr. Moses reflects on a conversation with his uncle, who taught him that if he didn’t see his church as the best in the world, maybe he was in the wrong one.

Fr. Moses:
I remember once uncle Fred said to me, I was sort of, I had become an Orthodox Christian, and you know, my family were traditionally AME and Baptist and I always looked up to my uncles with a certain amount of respect.
And my uncle Fred saw me dressed like this, he said: “Now what are you? What kind of church is this? ”
And I was being a little bit slow in answering, I was going: “Well, you know, it’s a, you know, an ancient part of the ancient church and blah blah.” and I was sort of, maybe a little embarrassed to tell him.
And my uncle Fred said: “Well, let me tell you something, son. If you don’t think that you’re in the best church in the whole wide world, then you’re in the wrong church.” He says: “So now tell me about your church as if it was the best church in the world”.
And I said: “Okay…”
