Fr. Dositheos:

Another issue, “Material and spiritual aid to our suffering brothers and sisters.”
It is a time when the needs for material and spiritual aid have increased.
Sixth [issue], aid to the ones who owe small amounts [of money] to the state.
Especially [to prevent] home foreclosure.
I assume that these things have come to your attention.
They lose their homes and businesses for small amounts.
If I who live in ‘the forest’ hear about these things, then it’s impossible that you do not.
Seventh [issue], release from prison for people with minor offences.
Our brother, Konstantinos, knows how many people are imprisoned for minor offences.
We could cover their expenses so they would not go to jail.
Do we not have a duty?
All these things I am telling you now [are included] in the commandment of Christ.
The greatest commandments are two, the two ‘great loves.’
A love to God and a love to our neighbor.
All these [aim to] fulfil the [second] commandment.
As God did not state the commandment as a figure of speech.
We have a duty.
If we want to be ‘of Christ’, if we want to be ‘with Christ’, we need to fulfil the commandment.
Many times, I ask the people who come and visit,
“Do you love God?”
“Of course and I do!”
And he starts saying fairytales.
“If you [truly] love God, you will fulfil His law, His commandment.”
And it is proven that, not only we do not love God, but we probably find ourselves ‘on the other side.’
He, Himself, says it, “He who has My commandments and keeps them, it is he who loves Me” [John 14:21].
‘Talking about love’ is our specialty. But let’s wake up to reality, to truth.
Do we really want to be with Christ? Let us keep His commandments. Love towards Him.
And as a matter of fact, it says, “And you shall love the LORD your God with all your heart, with all your soul, with all your mind and with all your strength” [Mark 12:30]
More than your husband, your children, your grandchildren, more, more.
Do we have this kind of love? I don’t think so. I hope that you have it. But I do not dare say that I love God.
As a matter of fact, every time I go to confession, the first thing I say is this,
“My Father, I do not love God.”
“I am an offender of the first commandment!”
“And the second one! Neither [do I love] my neighbor!”
Do you love your neighbor as much as yourself as the commandment says?
How so?
You see your neighbor suffering, in pain … no interest [in him].
Indifference. “Close the door so we do not listen to him.”
How many needs does our neighbor have and we act as if nothing is going on?
We are most indifferent to the problems of our fellow men.
At least, let us admit it, let us repent, let us confess it and ask from God, “My Christ, please grant me the spirit of love so I can love You and I can love my neighbor.” Is it not so?
Do you know what is the greatest sin?
The violation of the first commandment. It’s the greatest sin.
And we do not confess it [during confession].
Although I want to believe that most of you here do confess, hardly anyone mentions it during confession.
Who knows? Maybe we take it for granted?
“Is it ever possible that I do not love God?”
And yet, in fact, it is proven that we neither love God, nor our neighbor.
An eight [issue], it will hurt you a bit… incentives to prevent abortions.
There are so many cases… murders…so many, so many.
At least, let us repent. Let us repent and help, both those who think of killing their children and ourselves.
And I will give you a couple of examples since I have the Elder next to me.
Many doctors say, “This one is disabled. It’s sick. You have to kill it.”
I remember once, when we were at the monastery with the Elder, a lady came, [inaudible] and says, “Elder, the doctor says it’s disabled and I have to kill it.”
The Elder says, “Tell the doctor to tear up his degree.”
She kept the child and it was most healthy and now is a scientist.
This is why we do not listen to doctors who have no fear of God.
[Elder Ioannikios]: Can I make an intervention?
[Elder Dositheos]: Forgive me.
[Elder Ioannikios]: The great [Helene] Ahrweiler. Have you heard about her?
She was a president of the universities in France.
She writes, “My mother wanted to abort me. My mother wanted to abort me.
And a grandmother told her, ‘Keep it, my child. The child is of God. Keep it.’
And she kept me.”
And she became this great Greek scientist.
How many saints were born by mothers who wanted to abort their children?
Such as Anastasios of Albania.
His mother wanted to abort him.
But she kept him and he became a great man of God.
He works today [in the service] of the Church.
How many more? It might become a saint soul.
[Elder Dositheos]: It is mentioned somewhere—as you know, cancer is one of the worst diseases …
[Elder Ioannikios]: Is it possible that she had a dog and she took more care of it than her child?
[Elder Dositheos]: Unfortunately, it does happen …
So, somewhere the issue of cancer is mentioned.
And an Elder prays fervently for God to send ‘the medicine.’
What did he hear?
[God]: Three times I send [it] to you, and you did not keep it.
[Elder Dositheos]: It was aborted. The man who was supposed to invent the cure [to cancer] was aborted.
Meaning, they killed [the child].
This happened three times!
See [how low] we can go …
