Metropolitan Silouan:

People who know God and know religion, know how to judge God and put Him in a box to their measure or put Him in their pocket. Forgive me for this expression. But many times we can be similar to them, by judging God, and His actions in history, and in our lives. We judge Him in His body, the Church. We judge Him in His servants who are us, the unworthy. At times we think we can teach the Holy Spirit and guide Him as we want and tell Him what He has to do. So the Gospel of today teaches us to get rid of this logic.

Perhaps it is not important if we know how to talk to Jesus or not. But it is very important to know that He is at hand, He is far and near. He will remain far so that we do not put Him in our pocket and make Him to our preference, but He will be very close, so that He makes our lives a new life completely. And when we accept Jesus, we become committed to Him and this commitment is in three aspects.

Firstly, we saw in the Gospel that man meets Jesus, that is, to believe in Him. Secondly, mention the name of Jesus. As the apostle Peter said: “In the name of Jesus Christ, I heal you.” The paralytic of 38 years said to the Jews “It’s Him, Jesus Christ”. His name and no one else. So the first aspect is faith, and the second is the action of resurrection, which is the name of Jesus Christ. Third, the life of resurrection. According to what Lord Jesus said to the 38 years paralytic, “Sin no more”. Let’s not go back to sin.

These three levels must be lived during every wait in our lives, wait of any kind, whether in our personal life, family life, with your children, your parents, yourselves, or your partners, in the life of the Church, our Antiochian Church in Lebanon, Syria, Argentine, wherever. These three levels are required: faith, calling the name of Jesus, that is, prayer, and thirdly, “sin no more, lest a worse thing come upon you.” Evil goes and resurrection comes…
