Mother, how can I quit smoking? I don’t really succeed, not even during the fasting season.
I have a recipe, I used to distribute it often, some people have succeeded.
Take the cigarette, light it and say: “Lord, Jesus Christ, Son of God… have mercy on me, a sinner!” But don’t smoke without crying out to God. You will say again: “Lord, Jesus Christ, Son of God have mercy on me, a sinner!” I hope you are a ‘male sinner’, if you are a ‘female sinner’ then it’s even more tragic. Although I know that girls smoke too, it’s just… sometimes we do it even more…
So, cry out to God, “I want You!” “I want You, not this!” And endure that anguish… Smoking covers that inner panic we were talking about, it blocks that deep anguish that is in us when we are not well placed in our life, in front of God. And then, giving up the cigarette, panic attacks us. Even some physical diseases appear when you stop smoking, as you face the [nicotine] withdrawal. Bear with this for a while, cry out to God, and you will see that you will succeed.
Well… it’s not easy. But God works [with you].
