Saint Sophrony the Athonite (+July 11, 1993) is one of the most beloved orthodox Christian elders of our times. In this rare audio recording he shows us a method to make our life fruitful: passing from the small things to the infinite things: “Oh, how much I want you all to become poets! Without creative inspiration it is difficult to spend even a single day like a Christian.”

St. Sophrony:
Oh, how much I want you all to become poets! Without creative inspiration it is difficult to spend even a single day like a Christian.

So move your mind away from the little things, which, however, are the images of other infinite things, this is what we need to do. In the fifth chapter of the Gospel of Matthew there are many words of Christ, completing the law of Moses: “It was said of them of old time, Thou shalt not kill. (…) But I say unto you … (…) It was said of them of old time, Thou shalt not commit adultery. (…) But I say unto you …”, and so on. And each time, starting from the commandments of the Old Testament, He passes to the infinite meaning of each of them. So now, I try to propose to you, as your brother, to use this method to make your life fruitful: move from small things to the infinite!
