I know a spiritual father who is particularly stout – of course it is his body type, but it may also be that he is not very careful with what he eats. But do you know how much pain he feels for others, how much he cares and is concerned for those who are suffering? He has humility admitting that he is not an ascetic, but at the same time he also has boundless kindness; and many find more true comfort and peace with this stout Spiritual Father than they do with many an ascetic one. A Spiritual Father who is not willing to even enter Hell out of love for his spiritual children is no Spiritual Father.
