Fr. Rafail Noica talks about Philokalia as the only one worthy of being called ‘culture’.

He also remembers a young bricklayer that worked for many years at the Monastery of St. John the Baptist in Essex (UK) and one who could have made far more more money instead of being a simple bricklayer.

The bircklayer responds: “What do I gain by this?
I don’t want to be the richest man in the cemetery!”

Every single culture ends with the cemetery…
Do you want to be the most cultured man in the cemetery? The most famous? The richest? The “most” of the cemetery?

When the human mind remains in this world, that ends with the grave and the cemetery, something dies in that man… And the Church, the mother who carries us in eternity, dies inside us, to an extent and form.
